If you are ready to take the next step in your maritime career and you have what it takes to enter the world of management then look no further than the MSc Sustainable Maritime Operations full degree programme.


This Master’s degree is a natural progression on from the BSc (Hons) Sustainable Maritime Operations qualification and provides you with the critical thinking and analysis skills required by any successful manager. Helping you to become a master in maritime management.


With a focus on maritime management and delivered through a flexible distance learning programme, you will take an in-depth look into Marine Science & Engineering Management, Project and Data Management and Maritime Industry Practice, before choosing two areas of interest from our five optional modules. Whether you are passionate about Protecting the Marine Environment, interested in Offshore Renewable Energy or want to strengthen your knowledge in Maritime Strategy and Policy, there will be a module for you.


The degree ends with a 12-month independent research project that you can conduct in an area of your expertise or an area of particular interest.

Optional Research Module

This research project module will enable you to gain a full Master of Science (MSc) award

  • MLA712B MSc Research Project

Typically, eligible candidates will have one of the following: 

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) or a Foundation Degree (FdSc) in a relevant subject, plus at least two years of work experience as a senior officer (2nd officer and above) 
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in a related subject area 
  • Demonstratable relevant work experience, evidenced via Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) alongside professional qualifications (e.g., Chief Mate/Officer/Engineer Certificate of Competency. Lower professional qualifications may also be considered alongside your relevant professional experience) 


And 


  • GCSE English Grade C or above, or international equivalent 


In some circumstances it may be necessary for you to undertake our 8-week Sustainable Maritime Operations Access Course (SMO101) in order to meet the entry requirements.

Your MLA College Student Experience team, Abigail White and Charlie Vosper, are the first point of contact for enrolled students who are in need of pastoral support, including requests under the Extenuating Circumstances policy for matters related to their academic studies. Abigail and Charlie are also responsible for monitoring student engagement and academic progression and will contact students directly to offer assistance should they feel that intervention is needed.
