The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering Management is a research-focused doctoral programme designed to advance original scholarship and professional innovation in engineering management. Grounded in international best practices, the programme offers a structured yet flexible framework that integrates rigorous research training, methodological development, and sustained academic supervision. Candidates will undertake independent research contributing to theoretical and practical advancements in the field, supported by a progression-based structure leading to the final thesis and viva voce. The programme aims to develop highly qualified researchers, academics, and industry leaders capable of addressing complex challenges and driving strategic transformation in engineering-intensive sectors.

In line with international academic standards, the new structure of the PhD programme is based on the British model, where students are mainly trained in the first year on research skills before they begin work on their thesis from the second year onwards. This model ensures a strong foundation in research methodology, enabling students to undertake impactful doctoral research with confidence and clarity.

Graduates from this programme are well-equipped for senior roles in academia, research institutions, and leadership positions within engineering and technology-intensive industries. They may serve as research scientists, R&D directors, innovation consultants, or strategic planners. The programme also provides a strong foundation for postdoctoral research and academic appointments in internationally recognised institutions.

• Applicants must hold a master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).
• Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field related to the Engineering Management. Those without sufficient background in the Engineering Management will need to complete additional master’s-level courses to build their foundation. These courses must be passed but will not incur extra tuition fees.
• A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (213 CBT, 79 iBT), IELTS academic score of 6.0, or their equivalents on another standardised nationally, or internationally, recognised test that is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research UAE (MOHESR).
• Submission of a comprehensive research proposal outlining clear objectives, proposed methodology, and significance of the research.
• At least two academic references highlighting the candidate’s suitability for doctoral-level research.
• Successful performance in an admission interview conducted by the programme’s academic panel.
• Students with a GPA of less than 3.0 (or equivalent) may be considered on merit using evidence of ability and background knowledge in relation to the proposed programme of research. Professional experience, publications, written reports or other appropriate evidence of accomplishment are taken into consideration.
• In cases where supplementary knowledge is required, applicants may be asked to complete additional Master’s-level modules as a condition for entry.

• Design and implement methodologically rigorous research that addresses significant theoretical or practical challenges in the field of engineering management.
