The Master of Science (MSc) in Finance and Risk Management at The British University in Dubai (BUiD) equips students with essential knowledge, skills, and tools to excel as financial risk managers or financial analysts. This programme blends theoretical understanding with real-world application, preparing graduates to make informed corporate, financial, and strategic decisions. It will also assist in preparing students for professional certifications such as the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). The programme’s content is aligned with FRM’s curriculum, which is accredited by Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). 

  • GARP Partnership: As an academic partner with the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), BUiD offers students the latest insights into financial risk management practices. The programme also prepares students for the Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) Part I examination, enhancing their credentials in the field.
  • ICAEW Credits: Graduates are eligible to apply for selected credits from The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), including credits in Business, Technology, and Finance, and Financial Management. 
  • Ethical and Thoughtful Contributions: The programme aims to graduate skilled professionals capable of making ethical and significant contributions to their organizations and communities. Students will gain an understanding of various industry risks and the managerial issues related to risk control.

  • Scholarships: Up to six students can receive scholarships covering the FRM Part I Exam registration fee.

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree equivalent to an Upper Second Class or with a Good GPA (3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent) from an accredited university with Finance or Economics or Accounting or Business Administration or a related discipline with some mathematical content.
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (213 CBT, 79 iBT), IELTS academic score of 6.0, or their equivalents on another standardised nationally, or internationally, recognised test that is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research UAE (MOHESR)
  • Applicants can be exempted from English Language if they had achieved the required score as part of their bachelor admission requirements.
  • A copy of the updated C.V
  • Submission of a certificate of equivalency issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research UAE (MOHESR) for all previous degree certificates awarded by institutions outside the UAE.
  • A copy of the passport along with a copy of the Emirates ID (If available).
  • Al Ethbara Number (for UAE nationals only)


Conditional Admissions:

  • Students with no prior exposure to accounting and finance are required to study and pass a specialised pre-master’s module with zero credit. The module will cover two core concentrations of Accounting and Finance, namely, Principles of Accounting and Principles of Finance and thus provide students from a non-accounting and finance background a smooth transition into the proposed programme. The module will be offered in an intensive mode.
  • The pre-master’s module will be assessed by a written exam with pass or fail. Only students who pass these pre-masters modules will be allowed to register for credit bearing modules on the FRM programme. 
  • A student with a GPA of 2.5 to 2.99 will be conditionally admitted upon the approval of programme coordinator.
  • A student with a GPA of 2.0 to 2.49 should have at least two years of relevant work experience after graduation
  • An IELTS score of 5.5 (TOEFL 530, 71 iBT), or its equivalent in a standardised English language test approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research UAE (MOHESR) is required.


After conditional admission to the MSc Finance and Risk Management programme, student must:

  • Achieve a 6.0 IELTS/TOEFL 550/TOEFL iBT 79 or its equivalent by the end of the first semester.
  • Take maximum of two modules in the first semester and must achieve a minimum grade of “C” in the first three modules taken.


English Exam Registration

  • Students are encouraged to register for their IELTS or TOEFL at The British University in Dubai (BUiD)
  • Paper-based ITP TOEFL are accepted by the administering institution only. Only those administered by AMIDEAST Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah will be accepted if it is sent by Amideast to BUiD directly.
  • While registering with ETS for iBT or with Amideast for ITP TOEFL, please quote BUiD’s TOEFL code 0168.
  • Internet (iBT) – test scores should be sent to BUiD directly by ETS.

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of the modern theory of finance and the major areas of financial innovation and risk management.
  • Apply suitable quantitative and other analytical methods used in finance and grasp the knowledge of the various hedging strategies.
  • Develop a rigorous approach to a variety of analytical tools commonly applied to the analysis and timing of investment strategies in derivatives and other markets taking into account sustainably factors such as social, economic and environmental (SEG).
  • Critically evaluate different quantitative and risk management models and hedging mechanisms.
  • Organise and critically analyse real-world data on banking, financial and economic problems.
  • Carry out independent and original academic research in a related specialist area. (MSc only)
  • Individually manage data and information collection, organisation, and implementation of theories and strategies using spread sheets and economic software for managing financial risk and investments to make entrepreneur financial decision.
  • Apply the techniques of modern finance theory to practical problems of asset management, credit evaluation, and risk management in financial institutions.
  • Self-evaluate, develop, and participate in further learning and advancement of knowledge and skills.
