Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time? Are you aiming for a specific career role, or do you simply know your strengths lie in software development and engineering? As an aspiring software engineer or tech leader, you might have a groundbreaking idea you want to bring to life or a strong aptitude for solving complex technical problems. Achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering allows you to develop the technical knowledge, skills, and industry connections required to access global career opportunities and refine your field of expertise.
Our full-time Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering is designed to provide students with a comprehensive, internationally oriented education in software development and engineering. The BEng Software Engineering programme will teach you how to tackle challenges in all areas of software development, from coding and algorithms to systems design and project management. The programme prepares students for a professional career in a wide variety of tech fields.
As a graduate of the BEng Software Engineering programme, you will be in high demand by tech companies, consultancy firms, and innovative start-ups. Your expertise will be sought after in diverse sectors such as software development, IT consulting, systems analysis, and digital innovation, where a deep understanding of software engineering practices is essential.
Whether you are interested in the internet of things, the next addictive app, or complex global organisation internal networking, this Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Software Engineering will allow you to advance to the next level. Students on the BEng Software Engineering will learn to build quality software while considering design, development, security, and maintenance. This means you will be a sought-after candidate amongst all kinds of companies, whether you want to work in finance, banking, healthcare, national security, or something completely niche.
The degree programme has been awarded the quality seal of the Accreditation Council Foundation. The Accreditation Council Foundation is a joint institution of the federal states of Germany for quality assurance in study and teaching at German universities.
Gisma University of Applied Sciences is state recognised. It also benefits from AMBA accreditation, which was awarded for the Global MBA and is an honour shared by only 6 universities in Germany and 2% of all universities worldwide. The prestigious AMBA accreditation represents innovation and excellence in education.
Gisma University of Applied Sciences supports flexible and individual learning by applying a systematic hybrid learning scheme. You will spend part of your lectures in class at our Berlin campus. These face-to-face phases are complemented by e-learning sessions. You will work on cases, reflect on readings, take part in online discussions, and participate in group exercises and projects. This variety of learning methods is part of our unique teaching strategy, which includes student-centred pedagogy, project-based learning, collaborative learning, and personalised coaching.
The full-time bachelor’s degree programme comprises a standard period of study of six semesters. The curriculum includes a ’mobility window’ in the 5th semester: a semester reserved for you to study abroad, undertake further modules with an applied focus as part of career development or to do an internship.
For the bachelor’s programmes, the total student workload for the courses is 180 ECTS credits.
Our full-time bachelor’s degree programme in Software Engineering will provide you with a broad spectrum of engineering competencies in the areas of analysis, specification, design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and documentation of software systems.
A key element of this programme is the Career Development Semester, within which you will work on an end-to-end software engineering project. This project will allow you to work on a business problem, similar to what you may be given by a future employer. You will take this problem and develop a solution by collecting data, then building software to resolve the problem. You will then evaluate, test, and deliver the business solution, just like you would for an employer or client.
Additionally, within this module, you will work in App & Web Development Studio. This is a sandbox style lab, where you will have the opportunity to develop a web or mobile app, using the technical skills developed in previous modules. This is your opportunity to put the theory you have learned into practice, which will develop your skills for your career ahead.
